You will never purchase anything better: Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ 2-Year Review

It all started about 2 years ago when I was in the market for a non-Apple tablet to help with University and general entertainment. Knowing that the most used, and best-known option was Apple it was not an easy task as it should be for a consumer. We need to have options when looking for things to spend our hard-earned money on. Just upon happen stance, Samsung, who had been quiet and slow in the tablet market comes out with a game changer.

A 12.7-inch OLED display, SPen functionality, quad stereo speaker system and a new DEX mode that literally changes the OS(operating system) to a Windows-like experience. This seemed like a no-brainer so I decided to do some research and see whether this $900 investment was going to be a bust or not. Countless video and blog reviews, and endless praise for the breakthrough in the company’s first good entry into the tablet market and I made my decision. That day I made the best purchase decision I’ve made in a long time.

We all know that feeling we get when we initially unbox a new gadget. The wonder and sight of its design. All the new use-case possibilities. Yet for me, that feeling, after 2 years, never went away. To this day I can take that tablet out of its case and feel the exact feeling I felt 2 years ago.

The positives:

Dex: Most other reviewers would say that this part of the newer Samsung software is basically useless because they never use it, however, I have to disagree. Pairing it with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse(both can be acquired for less than $20) the tablet basically becomes a full-fledged PC. The S7+ even supports external drives up to 4TB. Where Dex has truly shined for me is by pairing it with a Dex cable. The Dex cable plugs into an HDMI port of any display and can make use of the display as an external monitor or tv.

Second Screen: What’s not to love about the ability to use your tablet as an extra monitor with any PC that runs Windows 10 or higher? One caveat about this is you need stable wifi connectivity for optimal use, however, it works great even when using Photoshop.

Display: It’s amazing. There is very little to say about it other than it’s a wonderful experience. Watching 4K videos on Youtube is something to behold.

SPen: Although I haven’t used the tablet majorly as an art device(mainly because I’m not really an artist) when I do use it, it’s a huge pleasure. Mostly for taking notes in lectures, it’s a massive pleasure to write with.

The design: Thin, and light with an extremely premium feel. Even when it’s a fraction of the price of the iPad Pro, which feels bulky and heavy in comparison.

Sound: Now, I have bragged about this to friends and family, but it still doesn’t do the tablet justice. The quad-speaker system on this S7+ is incredible. It’s truly breathtaking the levels of volume and bass it can achieve in such a thin package. And, with the inclusion of Dolby Atmos, it takes that previously mentioned bar and throws it out the window. Any piece of entertainment will be immensely enjoyed here.

The Negatives:

The performance: I have noticed once or twice that the tablet freezes when it hasn’t had a restart in a while. Restarting will help clear the cache so it always fixes it.

The screen: I know I know, the screen was a positive. Why would you also have it in the negatives? The only reason for this is using the S7+ at low brightness. The screen gets a green tint to it which causes me to never fully place it on the lowest brightness.

Conclusion

Since the release of the newest S8 tablet series I’ve been asked whether I would be upgrading, yet, I haven’t considered it at all. There are very few new things on the S8 lineup that would force me to upgrade to the newer models, even with the S8 Ultra becoming a behemoth of a tablet, the S7+ still feels like the newest model to me. I still have that feeling of new tech whenever I use it and it still has a few more years of software updates to go. Maybe when I fall onto a mountain of money and I’ve upgraded everything else in my life would I consider upgrading to the S8 series. But, for now, I’m still very pleased with the S7+.
